  1. Hi,

    I've got the root and the B109 rom installed, but would like to upgrade to the B213, however CWM can't flash an UPDATE.APP - how do I get this on?

    1. UPDATE.APP means its the official firmware, so if you flash it you will lose the root etc.

      You need LeSongs custom B113 Rom which is on the root and recovery post here - http://johnnyparanoia.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/how-to-install-root-and-recovery-on.html

      You will have to get it from the Chinese forum because some miserable bast*rd has had my Mediafire account suspended so until I get that sorted none of my links will work :(

  3. Thanks.

    What is the difference in b113 and b213. Is it just china vs uk? My girlfirend has a UK one with 213 on and it has GAPPS native etc. Mine is chinese and it won't do an official update for some reason.

    Your guide didn't work for me and when I looked into it the OneKey was failing becuase "su" isn't on the device so I root'ed it with the other guide on XDA and then it worked to put the B109 on and GAPPS. I had to manually install the Blaze device as ADB Adapter interface too.

    Thanks for the response anyway, great work.

    1. It looks like the rooting method for B113 and B115 here - http://johnnyparanoia.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/how-to-root-huawei-ascend-p1-u9200.html

      should work.

      Also Unlock Root - http://www.unlockroot.com/

      Also might work and would be easier lol

    2. Hi Johnny,

      Thanks but unfortunately both options did not work for Huawei ascend P1 with B219.

    3. Ok, been researching and found something on a Thai website that might work for you :)

      First follow the instructions for Android Control here - http://johnnyparanoia.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/how-to-manually-flash-recovery-image.html
      (ignore the recovery image stuff)

      Once the Android Control is extracted etc. Download this - http://www.mediafire.com/?yufje6b3u5is8qb
      and extract to the same folder.

      Make sure debug is enabled and then plug in your phone and run the 'Root_P1D1.exe' from inside your AndroidControl folder, Click root and it should work :S

      The original Thai post is here - http://www.papayatop.com/29/how-to-root-clockworkmod-huawei-ascend-p1-u9200/
      and says to install android SDK (which I don't thinks really needed if you use Android Control) and has a pack for download which I've mirrored here -http://www.mediafire.com/?ctlwztycoekbe4h
      just in case its needed.

      Unfortunately with it being in Thai, I can't tell if its been tested with B219 or if it needs testing with it, Google translate is confusing at times lol

      And use this image to flash it - http://www.mediafire.com/?pdaj3bohegu0vox

      Its an English version of the CWM Touch recovery.

  7. Hi Johnny,

    I hope it can work but the problem is when i connect Ascend P1 with laptop and restart in boot mood, the blaze (USB) driver does not install by pulse driver folder or automatically from window, so phone is not responding to command prompt. could you please help to find USB driver for U9200 ?

    1. Huawei U8510 (Blaze) Drivers here - http://www.mediafire.com/?73to6mk7igu98lu

      or

      Huawei Handset USB Drivers here - http://www.mediafire.com/?dav9rtayiyciv95

      You should be able to use either of them to get the correct drivers :)

    2. Hi Johnny,
      Thanks for your effort but sorry to say both drivers does not work for Window (XP,7).

    3. Then I can only suggest the SDK way to install OEM ADB Drivers that should work.

      Download and install SDK here - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

      And then follow the guide here - http://developer.android.com/tools/extras/oem-usb.html#WinXp

      Or scroll to the Vista, Windows 7 etc to install the Google driver.

    5. Hi Johnny,

      Now i manage to install " clockworkmod recovery v5.8.4.5" and using MIUI ROM but now i cannot install ICS by this recovery mode, i tried same method to put dload (update.app) on SD card but failed to run setup.
      how i can install back

      1. Android system recovery
      2. ICS

      thanks

    6. You will need to flash the stock recovery to the phone and then use the dload method, there is a problem with the cutom recovery's that cause official updates to return a 'version check' error.

      What firmware were you originally on?

      What firmware are you now trying to install?

      And I'll try extract the recovery.img for you :)

    1. I have the U9200-1V100R001CHNC00B118 which I can upload for you but I'm guessing you want access to Google Play which won't be on there.

      I can't at the moment say why its saying check version? It should work.

      I can only suggest that you root the B118 firmware and install custom recovery, then flash the gapps package.

      Or give me some time to ask around and see if I can find out why the firmware updates are not working for you and I'll post back here.

    1. Do you have a custom recovery installed?

      If not you can root it by following the guide in the comments above (Thai method, I haven't had time to write it up yet)

      Then install a custom recovery here - http://johnnyparanoia.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/how-to-install-recovery-on-huawei.html

      (I'd use the cwm_touch_recovery_viva_beta.img because it's in english.

      Download the Gapps package here - http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip and copy it to your phones SDCard.

      Reboot into recovery choose 'install zip from SDCard>Choose zip from SDCard>and navigate to where you copied gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip and install.

      Reboot once its finished and you should have Google Play etc installed :)

  13. I faced the same problem.

    You have to root the B118 firmware and install custom recovery, then flash the gapps package.

    Follow this guide for rooting
    http://johnnyparanoia.blogspot.in/2012/06/how-to-root-huawei-ascend-p1-u9200.html

    Follow this guide for installing recovery
    http://johnnyparanoia.blogspot.in/2012/06/how-to-install-recovery-on-huawei.html
    Dont worry recovery install process is same for 113, 115 and 118 versions.

    The Gapps package you need is here - http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip

    If you want a fresh install u can download the original 118 firmware from above link and flash the same in your phone using the below guide.
    http://johnnyparanoia.blogspot.in/2012/07/how-to-restore-stock-firmware-on-huawei_20.html
    This step has to be done first.

    1. I don't really understand what you mean. Fastboot is the mode you put your phone into in order to flash an image file.

      You need to have USB Debugging enabled and thaw fastboot option unchecked in you phones settings. Then reboot in fastboot mode (should stop on logo) and then you can flash the recovery image :)

  17. Is there a way to be able to have Google apps (google play) in a P1 buyed in China whithout having to install Clockworkmod Recovery ?
    Can I flash official Uk or German ROM that I guess already have google apps installed ? It will work that way ?
    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can try and flash a 'General' rom from above and see if it works (there seems to be a version check with the firmware for the P1 but I cannot confirm or deny because I don't own one lol)

      If it doesn't work it will just give you a 'Chk Version' error so you can try it and your phone should be fine :)

  18. Where is the fastboot option?i cant find it anywhere...

    1. It would be in Settings>Applications if you have it. To test just switch off your phone and then hold the volume down key and power key for about 5 seconds and the phone should boot up and stop at the first logo, that's fastboot mode.

    1. Any of the (Normal) labelled roms above will have gapps so you can try any of them. However they may not work if you have the Chinese firmware installed already due to the 'Version Check' error, Huawei seems to be trying to stop people flashing 'Normal' firmware on the Chinese phones.

      There is a way around this but try flashing the firmware first because I don't know if it affects all P1's or just some.

      Other tip I can offer is to try a firmware higher than the one already installed so if you have V100R001CHNC00B113 try flashing V100R001C00B219 to see if it will upgrade.

      Hope this helps and post back if you run into the version check error and I'll try to help :)

    1. Yes and No lol.

      From the feedback I've been getting, the P1 has quite a robust version check on its firmware so you can try to flash straight off but will probably get an error.

      However you can root your P1 and then manually flash a recovery image from a previous 'Normal' version like B213 before flashing B219 and this should get around the version check error.

      Look on here for the guides -

      Extract and identify Recovery image - http://johnnyparanoia.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/how-to-extract-and-identify-recovery.html

      and

      Manually flash a recovery image - http://johnnyparanoia.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/how-to-manually-flash-recovery-image.html

      If you need help rooting try Unlock Root here - http://www.unlockroot.com/

  28. Hi Johnny, you definately rule ! Thanks for this great blog . Look, I just have received an amazing Huawei P1 U9200 bought directly from China. The firmware right now is U9200-1V100R001CHNC00B118.
    Can you please guide me in the process to update this ROM to a multilingual ROM that include spanish please ? And if possible that this ROM come already rooted. The good point is that the chinese seller sent me the P1 already rooted and with recovery applied...so although Recovery is in chinese I have translated recovery menus and I know how to access Sd Zip update.
    Thanks for your help Johnny and keep up the outstanding job !

    Do you know why that happenned ? Maybe as I have B118 chinese ROM ? or maybe cause I have already the chinese recovery applied so I would need to install a Zip ROM instead?

    Replies
    1. Its a combination of factors. The custom recovery means that no official rom will pass the version check (it seems to be an issue with all the custom recoveries available) also even if it wasn't rooted then the Chinese firmware also fails the version check when trying to install a European upgrade.

      There is a way around this and since you are already rooted, you're already half way there lol :)

      First you'll need to extract the recovery image from a general firmware (Try B219 since you already have it) - How to - Extract and Identify Recovery Images from (Most) Huawei Firmware

      next you'll need to flash it to your phone - How to - Manually flash a recovery image via ADB

      then upgrade your firmware using the forced method - How to - Restore stock Firmware on Huawei Ascend P1 - U9200

      Once installed use Unlockroot to re-root your new firmware

      And then install cwm_touch_recovery_viva_beta.img using the manual method above (its CWM recovery in English instead of Chinese)

      You should now have an updated and rooted phone with all the Google apps and Spanish (I can't be sure but the European ones usually do)

      Enjoy :)

    2. Thanks a lot for you reply. The step (extract and identify Recovery Images from Huawei Firmware) seems really tough... do you know if I found the B219 ROM in zip format I could be able to flash the ROM succesfully ?
      Thank you very much.

      Delete
    3. You could indeed flash a custom rom in zip format. If you open it and it has a system and META-INF folder plus a boot.img then you're golden :) if its just got a 'update.app' then keep looking because its stock.

      If you can't find the stock rom in zip format, you can always try the MIUI Rom here - MIUI Android

    4. Thank you very much for your help Johnny ! I will think about what to do... yes I think finding a good zip rom would be the most safe thing to do...well I will keep you informed if I can make it. Thanks.

    A: Unlock Root doesn't work with official version of Android 4.0. But it works with Android 4.0. made by the third party.

    it mean that any official 4.0 can't be root?

  35. hi guys

    now you can flash any stock "ROM" like b219 by edit the build.pro :)

    1- you have to root your U9200 using ( root u9200[Nixing] ) .

    2- edit last 13 line in system\build.pro ( using root e.g root explorer ) ( ****** ) Mean rom nubmer .

    ro.product.board=U9200
    ro.confg.hw_systemversion=U9200-1V100R001********_SYSTEM
    ro.build.display.id=U9200-1V100R001******
    ro.product.model=U9200
    ro.product.brand=Huawei
    ro.build.tags=ota-rel-keys,release-keys
    ro.product.manufacturer=HUAWEI
    ro.product.name=U9200
    ro.product.device=hwu9200
    ro.build.id=HuaweiU9200
    ro.build.version.incremental=C00B213
    ro.build.description=U9200-user 4.0.3 HuaweiU9200 ******* ota-rel-keys,release-keys
    ro.build.fingerprint=Huawei/U9200/hwu9200:4.0.3/HuaweiU9200/*******:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys

    3- install stock recovery via ADB .

    4- finally ,force update "dload" file in your SD " press and hold the volume up and volume down keys together "

    thank you

    1. Thanks for this tip! It worked great! I managed to go from B104 to B226.
      A couple of notes:
      1. The line "ro.build.version.incremental" should also be updated with the required ROM version.
      2. You can start the upgrade process by going to:
      Settings>Storage>Software Upgrade>SD card Upgrade
      The phone will reboot and go to recovery mode directly.

  46. Hi all. I recently purchased a SIM-free P1 and tried updating it using the online updater utility which told me that there were no updates available - as expected.

    So I tried to install the B229 firmware from Huawei's site. I had to force it into the recovery, during which I couldn't select the "UPDATE.APP" file from my microSD card.

    After some extensive googling, it seems that if an update is incompatible with the P1 in question, it will fail to install - which is fair enough.

    My question is: Which firmware from the list, if any, will I be able to install?

    I'm currently on V100R001GBRC00B102 (I live in the UK) - this may be the same firmware as the pay-monthly Vodafone models, but I'm not entirely sure.

    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  47. Greetings,

    So I can't seem to find the Nixing/Tools file anywhere,
    all links to this have been broken and torrent sites don't
    have the file either. Any suggestions on where to find the
    tool required for this tutorial? The name of the hacker who
    invented it? (starts with a G I think?)

    Thanks!
